August and the beginning of September were absolutely amazing. We had so much going on with my sister’s wedding and the surrounding events, which was really just these last two weeks, but the anticipation and preparation made it the predominate focus of the month! Just yesterday morning I said good-bye to the last of my cousins heading out of town; the hoopla has come to a close and I am so sad that it is over (as in quite a few tears). The wedding festivities require a post(s) of their own, but remembering some highlights and sweet moments from last month ease the transition back to reality:
Mornings at the Park
Do you think they like each other?
Olbrich Gardens’ Family Night!
The boys ran around and blew bubbles, but most notably, I could not keep Cal away from the water fountain. Both boys were drenched five minutes in, we snacked on the lawn, and a children’s band played while we chatted with friends for a bit.
Afternoons Outside
Waiting for Daddy to get home! Look at the adoration on these faces…
Angie and George’s Bachelor/Bachelorette Party!
It was hilarious! We started with three rounds of laser tag, dinner, dessert and gifts. The final round, we played a group of tiny little ninjas that would just pop up out of no where and disappear as discreetly as they came; that got a lot of joke leverage the rest of the evening :) Then we headed to SPiN, a ping-pong bar in Milwaukee! You “rent” tables to play at and in the center of the space is a table with spot lights and spectator seating. There was a tournament going on that night, which thoroughly entertained guys. The night went by too fast, but it was fun to celebrate these two (who are at this very moment on their first leg of their honeymoon in France)!
We headed home to our boys the next day, but not before sneaking in a little morning date for just the two of us.
Some Time Inside at Home
1.) We read a story about Mr. Gumpy who lets his children and a bunch of animals come in his boat with him if they all agree to behave, they do, but then end up tipping the whole thing over; Max spent a lot of time in that laundry basket with his stuffed animals. 2.) Couch Jumping 3.) Building the Thinga-ma-jigger!
Do not get between this boy and his popcorn (note: I know that popcorn is a choking hazard for young children, we keep a close eye!)
A Walk a Day…
The August weather was amazing! We took walks almost every morning or afternoon. There is an incredible walking trail by our house, we pass a horse stable to get there, and then walk over a bridge and stream. What a dream…they love it. One day, I mistakenly thought it was snack/lunchtime, but Calvin opted for a nap and therefore the peanut butter rice cake turned out to be a bad idea (the other little man is just being a ham :)
Betty Lou Cruise
It just so happened that some friends had an extra ticket for a Betty Lou Cruise, and I was thrilled to take off their hands! It was an unbelievably gorgeous night on the lake – 80 degrees and sunny. The cruise included cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and then we went to a Spanish tapas restaurant to share dinner. It was one of those life-giving, refreshing to the soul type nights; a breath of fresh lake and girlfriend air!
Water gun fights with Dad!
The New Splash Pad
And then, August ended on a very high note! More to come on that.
