I just finished Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand and it is fantastic. I mean, the story is horrific; all that Louie Zamperini and his fellow POW’s expereinced during WWII is incomprehensible, but compilation of the book and readability of his story is facinating.
In gauging what makes a good book, I ask:
{Did I grow as a person from this piece of literature}
I would shout an emphatic, YES!
I grew in my awareness of history; my appreciation for those away at war; my sympathy for the hardships our soldiers have experienced and the burdens they carry long after the fighting is over; and the brokenness of humainty and how wrongly we treat one another.
